NBC Renew/Cancel [2017-18] Week 2: Bad News for 'Great News'

Predictions for 10/8/17

Welcome to week 2 of NBC Renew/Cancel. Brace yourself for some bad news for two of the peacock network's younger shows.

Key

Show Title [Average adults 18-49 rating/Most recent rating]

The Brave [1.2/1.1] - After a lackluster debut, the military drama took a 15% drop in week 2 to a 1.1 in the 18-49 demo. While it didn't lose much of its premiere audience, it still lost over half of its lead-in. I probably won't downgrade it until it goes below a 1, but it probably won't take long before that happens.

Law & Order: True Crime [1.4/1.1] - 'True Crime' had a workable 1.6 debut, but it collapsed to a meager 1.1 this week. It also barely retained a third of its 'This Is Us' lead-in. Since it has the Dick Wolf name behind it, I'm keeping it away from the certain cancellation section. But, that didn't exactly save 'Chicago Justice' last year.

Great News [1.2/1.0] - After starting in the tossup section, I've decided to move the struggling sophomore comedy to cancellation territory. It fell from a solid 1.3 to a weaker 1.0 in week 2. Once again, these numbers would be fine if it didn't have a massive lead-in from 'Will & Grace'. It could barely retain half of its lead-in this week and lost to 'Superstore' and 'The Good Place'. The series is living off of 'Will & Grace' and it's scary to think how low it would go without the support. NBC tried and failed with this one, so it's most likely not coming back.

The Blacklist [1.1/1.0] - The network's Wednesday dramas only dropped a tenth after their premieres and remained in solid territory. I'm still not 100% sure if 'The Blacklist' will receive another season, but it is making a strong case for it.

There's nothing noteworthy to say about the shows in the 'certain renewal' category. All shows pulled respectable numbers and all (except 'Chicago Fire') of them only lost a tenth of a point from their premieres.
