- I wish we had seen more of the "killing hitler" gag considering how much Fox hyped it up in the promos
- I'm assuming this episode took place after the OJ scandal.
- Deb yelling about Dan's "hitler spoon" was probably the best part of the episode.
Making History Season 1 Episode 4 Review
Over the course of the first three episodes, Making History shifted from a high-profile time-travel comedy to a typical hangout comedy, "Chadwick's Angels" aim to get the series back on track and I'm happy to say that it succeeded in doing so.
At first glance, the main plotline doesn't seem like anything special, After a talk with Hancock and Adams, Dan realizes that he needs to fix his childhood problems before trying to fix the world's problems, but since this is a time-travel comedy, Dan can actually go back to the 90's to the exact same ice cream parlor and fulfill his destiny of finishing the Bellybuster.
This episode works so well simply because the writers utilize the great premise they have at their hands. Instead of trying to get a job promotion, Chris is trying to save a woman's life. Instead of Dan making amends with Deb, he's beating up his childhood bully. Both plots work well comedically and end up moving the story somewhere. Outside of those two, Deb bonds with Joy, the ice cream parlor owner, and ends up saving her store from shutting down. It's only really there to give Deb something to do in the episode, but it was still fairly interesting to see Deb's amazement at all those different ice cream flavors.
The most interesting part of the episode has got to be when Dan sees his younger self being pushed around by his bully. The problem is, he can't stop the bully because there's a force field blocking him from his past self. This is the type of material I expected from Making History from the start and I'm so glad that we're finally getting into the ins and outs of time travel.
Ultimately, "Chadwick's Angels" is Making History's best episode since the pilot. It uses its premise to the fullest and gives us a fresh new location and set-up. This is the type of show I expected going in and I'm glad that the series is delivering.
