The TV Ratings Guide's Take On...Timeless, This is Us, and The Good Place

Welcome to the final edition of The TV Ratings Guide's Take On! Here are our pre-ratings analysis of the chances of NBC's three new fall entries: Timeless, This is Us, and The Good Place.

Timeless
Full Boyle
This one gets the post-Voice time slot, probably the best you can ask. I think it'll perform similar to Blindspot, staring strong and crashing fast, but still good enough to return. RENEW

HV
With absolutely no buzz, unlike other post-Voice Monday shows, I think NBC will prevent themselves from seeing a second season ratings disaster and cancel the show.
Jon
Timeless is getting lucky, airing after The Voice. That should definitely help it ratings-wise. However, the trailer has not gotten good reception, and the show has little buzz. I think it won't do great, but not bad, slightly above Shades of Blue, which was renewed. It should be renewed, but probably given a short season next season.

Luke
Timeless may likely start out as your typical NBC post-Voice show on Mondays (Revolution, The Blacklist, Blindspot) which consists of a pretty respectable premiere episode and a gradual decline in the following few episodes. However, I am beginning to think we may not see the usual with this show. With slightly-mixed responses to the trailer and almost no buzz at all (the other three post-Voice shows previously mentioned actually had a lot of buzz before their premieres), it is likely Timeless is going to disappoint. I'm thinking we are going to see a premiere in the high 1.0s or low 2.0s and then a slightly-rapid decrease to the low 1.0s over the course of its 13-episode run. After Timeless wraps for the season, it may be a bubble show but I think it will ultimately end up canceled.

This is Us
Full Boyle
NBC is giving this one the post-Voice slot on Tuesdays, but it also has a massive amount of buzz. While that doesn't always translate into ratings (a la Scream Queens), it has The Voice to fall back on, and I think it will do well, though below some high expectations. RENEW

HV
This show has received an incredible amount of buzz, so I think it will make it; I predict renewal.

Jon
As I mentioned earlier, every network seems to have a new fall show they like the best. I believe that this is NBC's. If you ask me, this will definitely be the breakout hit of the fall. Everyone on the internet has seemed to love the trailer, and general premise, along with the cast. I think it will be renewed.

Luke
This is Us is, by far, the show with the most "buzz" out of the freshmen class. Its trailer set new records for viewership among new shows and it has one of the biggest online followings. Although high "buzz" doesn't always correlate to high ratings, I think This is Us will get a pretty good sampling, at least for its first episode. The pilot should get a high 2.0 rating, possibly even in the low 3.0s. After that, its trajectory will mostly depend on the quality of the show. If people just aren't that interested, I can see this being a show which falls VERY quickly. This is Us may become a bubble show at the end of its run, but I think it will squeeze out a renewal in the end.

The Good Place
Full Boyle
With a Thursday time slot after Superstore, this doesn't have much of a chance. Its concept is more niche and the creator is known for critical acclaim with Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but both shows have not been breakout hits. The Good Place has tough competition, and will probably not even do well enough for a backorder. CANCEL

HV
This show seems too niche, and will likely struggle up against CBS's comedy block, so I think it will get canceled.

Jon
This too could be NBC's favorite new fall show. It was picked up a long time ago to series. I think this will be one of the top rated comedies of the season. It has a great, popular cast, and everyone seems to think it is hilarious. I definitely think it will be renewed.

Luke
NBC's new comedy, led by Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, will enjoy a nicely-sized premiere in the 2.0s on Monday night following the season premiere of The Voice. However, once it makes its move to Thursday nights following Superstore, it will fall to low 1.0s and very possibly go fractional by the end of its run. After The Good Place airs its 13-episode order, you won't likely be seeing it ever again.
