What May Cause Frequency to be a Hit?
Positive reception to much-watched trailer
The trailer for Frequency was more watched than the trailer for No Tomorrow, the other new fall CW show, and it was the seventh most watched among all of the new fall shows, being very close to all of them except This is Us and Timeless. Additionally, it was tied among all of the networks with Designated Survivor for the most liked trailer, getting a 97 like/dislike ratio. That information can be found here.
While it doesn't get The Flash as a lead-in, it gets the next best thing: Arrow. The second-highest rated show on the network, Arrow provides a solid lead-in for Frequency, as it did for The 100.
CW doesn't cancel new fall shows
The last time the CW has canceled a new fall show was when they canceled The Tomorrow People in the 2013-14 season. The only new shows they have canceled since then premiered in April.
What May Cause Frequency to be a Miss for the CW?
Not a superhero show (or comedy-drama)
With vampires dying off now, the biggest brand on the CW is superhero shows, with four superhero shows leading off nights this fall. The CW has also kept around comedy-dramas Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Frequency, however, is a crime mystery, which isn't something that the CW is known for.
Many mid-season shows
The CW has a lot of shows to air in 2017: Riverdale, The Originals, iZombie, The 100, and Reign. This means some fall shows may get neglected in order to air these shows.
What to Expect for Frequency?
I think it will get decent ratings and end up coming back next season, continuing for four seasons. I don't expect it to be a hit, but I think it will do well enough to last.
Which factors do you think will be most in play in causing Frequency to be a hit or a miss? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
